I don’t know what it is about this ceviche salad but it is absolute heaven. My sushi love tank is now full.

The ceviche salad is described as “sashimi and mixed greens with a spicy lime vinaigrette” and that description seriously underplays how darn good it is! There’s usually a mix of octupus, yellowfin tuna, bluefin tuna and surimi. This time I substituted octopus for spicy tuna. The octupus actually has an awesome smokey flavor and is interestingly and deliciously chewy. You have to have an open mind.
When I started eating sushi, about 11 or 12 years ago, I started with sushi rolls and usually the fish was cooked somehow. Fried or no fish at all. Crunchy roll…holla! But as I matured, so did my palette. Still to this day, I have not sat down and ordered a slab o’ tuna but I definitely enjoy the sushi rolls or the aforementioned bomb diggity ceviche salad.
A typical sushi meal for me consists of a Kirin Ichiban or Saporro beer (or warm Saki, depending on the mood), an order of edamame, a ceviche salad and a spicy tuna roll. Sometimes I get a vegetable roll because I find it helps cleanse the palette before eating your next big bite.
I don’t usually eat the ginger or the wasabi mainly because of an ex-boyfriend. See, back in the day when I first started eating sushi, we would frequently go out to a restaurant. Well, one day, he decided to test my faith in him and said, “Here. Taste this!”, and I trustfully took a modest 1/4 teaspoon size dollop of wasabi in my mouth. I must’ve looked like a baby tasting lemon for the first time. Yea…ever since then I won’t touch the stuff. I may, however, give careful consideration to consuming it again if I ever have severe nasal congestion.
Tuna is one of the most popular fish (fishes?) to use when making sushi and that’s fine with me! Tuna is rich in omega 3 fatty acids which are good for reducing inflammation around the heart, thus improving circulation and heart health. Moderation is the key, though.
