I went to Birmingham this weekend for a wedding. Rehearsal supper was held at a local seafood restaurant and oh MAN, it was good. I started off the night with a fantastic glass of sauvignon blanc followed by the beginning of a three course meal. I was so busy sipping my wine and introducing myself to the people across from me that I had to choose my dinner in about 15 seconds. I chose the mixed green salad, the tilapia and apple pie. I started with my salad while the server poured the brut champagne. I have found a new love for bleu cheese. I remember my grandma always eating bleu cheese on something and it stunk so bad but thank goodness that our taste buds evolve every 7 years or so because I love it now. The balsamic dressing and walnuts added the perfect touch.
The main course was next. I should open the menu and order in 15 seconds more often. Have you ever had tilapia that tasted like pancakes with hot syrup? Y’all…the Jamaican rum butter was fantastic and not to mention cashews are one of the most tasteful ingredients you can add to a dish. The tilapia was accompanied by whipped mashed potatoes and oven-roasted spring vegetables.
Dessert wrapped up the night. Upside Down Apple Pie? You have NO idea what you’re missing. As far as I’m concerned, my life is complete. I will pray for those of you who will never experience it. It had a crust that reminded me of the southern pecan pie topping that we make. The only thing that would’ve made that dessert better would have been to have vanilla ice cream with it. I recommend visiting McCormick & Schmick’s wherever you are.
The wedding was amazing and very intimate. The reception was held at an antique store! It was such a unique experience. The hors d’oeuvres included macaroni n’ cheese balls (my fav!), roast beef sandwiches, grilled asparagus, meat sandwiches on yeast buns and multiple cheeses and fresh fruit. Kudos to the caterer!
Ta-ta for now!
