WTH! No Meat for Dinner?

That’s right!

I can’t tell you how many people I talk to that tell me how important it is to have their “meat and potatoes”. Granted, meat provides you with protein and fat…both very important components needed to maintain proper balance in your body chemistry. However, most people who value meat, often don’t know the harm it could do if consumed in excess. You’ve seen my hamburger blog and my bacon blog so obviously I’m not a preachy dietitian. We’re all human. Moderation and VARIETY (our special word for the night) are key to healthy eating. For instance, take the dinner I ate tonight.

Fruit salad, raw carrots, white cheddar cheese, hummus, and crackers can provide you with vitamins and minerals, protein and fat. I threw in the Sprite to make some of you chuckle. It’s like the joke about the woman ordering a bacon cheeseburger with fries and a diet coke on the side. But seriously, that is less calories consumed…so yay for cheeseburger lady.

Carrots, pineapple, and kiwi are rich in vitamins and minerals to help keep us healthy and vibrant. Plus, they’re low in calories and high in fiber; both benefitting weight loss. The hummus and cheese provide the protein and fat but in a non-meaty way and are very low in cholesterol. And the crackers and Sprite are just gravy. Think about going vegetarian for at least 3 meals per week. You’ll thank yourself!

See ya!
